Antimicrobial surfaces for infection prevention

A VDI status report on "Antimicrobial surfaces for infection prevention - materials and active substances, test methods as well as legal and regulatory framework conditions" has been available since April. It is published by the VDI Society Technologies of Life Sciences, Department of Medical Technology. Frequently touched surfaces and objects are a major source for the spread of pathogenic germs.

In addition to basic hygiene, cleaning and disinfection measures, antimicrobial technologies and materials are increasingly being used to contain or ideally prevent the spread of pathogens via this transmission route. This status report presents the current state of knowledge on antimicrobial surface technologies, the use of materials and active substances and test methods for microbial contamination of surfaces, taking into account the legal and regulatory framework conditions.
