BEA participation in funded EU projects

The Berlin Energy Agency (BEA) has been awarded the contract for two international projects funded by the EU as part of the "Horizon 2020" research and innovation program.

In the "Pro Retro" project, the BEA is a partner in a consortium led by the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy. The aim of the project is to develop and set up a new advice center in various regions of Germany on the subject of energy-efficient refurbishment. The office is to organize, accompany or even completely take over all steps on the way to an energy-efficient home for its customers. Taking existing activities into account, target group-specific offers are to be tested for different groups of owners, who will be accompanied throughout the entire renovation process. Across Europe, 13 partners are participating in this project, including from Austria, Sweden and Germany. It will start in June 2020 and run for 36 months.

The "GEAR@SME" project, on the other hand, pursues the idea of motivating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to carry out energy audits. The audits and the resulting energy-saving measures are to be monitored by the BEA and implemented by the SMEs. In Berlin, industrial estates in particular are to be targeted. GEAR@SME" is also a Europe-wide project that will initially run for 30 months. Ten project partners from the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Italy, Romania and Germany are involved.

"In both projects, the Berlin Energy Agency can contribute its many years of national and international experience in the field of energy consulting and energy-efficient refurbishment. We are particularly looking forward to the cross-border cooperation with our project partners in Europe, which is especially important to us when it comes to climate protection," said Michael Geißler, Managing Director of the BEA.
