"Bright prospects" for electroplating training at the Nuremberg site

For a few weeks now, there has been another coating thickness gauge in the measuring room of the Semper Schools for Biology, Chemistry and Technology in Nuremberg (formerly LGA, or TÜV Rheinland). By a stroke of luck, the X-ray fluorescence measuring device from E-T-A Elektrotechnische Apparate GmbH found its way to the school in Nuremberg. The trainees, as well as the students on the further training course to become master electroplaters and electroplating technicians, now have the opportunity to examine the coating thickness of the components coated in the training electroplating department using an additional measuring device.

But how did this fortunate circumstance come about?

The medium-sized company E-T-A Elektrotechnische Apparate GmbH based in Altdorf near Nuremberg (world market leader for circuit breakers and automatic circuit breakers) replaced its optimally maintained coating thickness measuring device with the X-ray fluorescence method (X-Ray) in the first quarter of 2021 with a new one with additional, required measuring options and the question arose: What to do with the used device, which is still functional? On the one hand, there is no room for two measuring devices of this type in the in-house electroplating shop, but on the other hand, it is always a great pity when a perfectly maintained and functioning device has to be disposed of or "collects dust" in a corner. A timely suggestion from Mr. Udo Krüger to the head of the electroplating department was to donate the used X-Ray to the Technical College for Electroplating Technology in Nuremberg ("Fachschule" for short) so that the students could benefit from it. In this way, the students have more opportunity to practise the measuring procedures and/or take comparative measurements. The school is always a very grateful recipient of measuring equipment that needs replacing and other items that are still in working order and can be integrated into everyday school life. Our volunteer "bridge builder" and supporter of the technical college, Mr. Krüger, brings this knowledge to the electroplating companies, which is how this fortunate circumstance came about. This helps everyone involved! Those responsible at E-T-A GmbH do not have to worry about what to do with the used device and the students in the electroplating training and further education program can use another measuring device and practice on it. Thank you very much for this opportunity!

The Technical College for Electroplating will be happy to receive further functional measuring equipment to let it shine in a new light in the school.
