The Science Year 2023 was officially launched with a kick-off event on January 25 at Bremen's Futurium. This time, it is dedicated to the largest conceivable subject of research, the universe and its relevance on earth.
The exploration of cosmic dimensions not only poses fundamental questions about the origin of the universe or extraterrestrial life, but also touches on applications that we encounter in everyday life with the technology and space travel required for this. The Year of Science focuses on four central topics: "The fascination of space", "Man, nature and the universe", "The universe and astronomy as an economic area" and "A look at the planet". As in the first Year of Science in 2000, which was dedicated to physics, the aim this time is to get the public more interested in science and research. With three interactive projects, "Science in Dialogue" invites citizens to get closer to the fascination of space. The university competition invites young researchers from all disciplines to submit interactive ideas on the subject of the universe. The exhibition ship MS Wissenschaft will also take visitors on a long journey through space during the Science Year 2023. On board, exhibits deal with various scientific disciplines. The ship will start its five-month tour of Germany in Berlin in May 2023. The Science Years are organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Science in Dialogue initiative (WiD).
