On February 24, 2010, on the initiative of Thilo von Vopelius, the "Deutsches Museum für Galvanotechnik e.V." was founded in Leipzig by 13 founding members. The initial period was challenging, especially the search for suitable premises and new members. Today, the association has over 65 members and has a 350m2 exhibition in a building dating from 1913, which was originally constructed by Langbein-Pfanhauser Werke AG. In addition to the classic museum tasks - collecting, preserving and presenting material witnesses of the past and present - the museum is dedicated to researching the history of electroplating technology and is involved in public relations work. It takes part in events such as the Day of Industrial Culture, the Museum Night and specialist congresses. Special emphasis is placed on promoting young talent: schoolchildren and trainees are given an insight into the world of electroplating through lectures, film screenings, museum tours and practical demonstrations. The association has published a five-volume documentation with over 1,400 pages on the history of electroplating companies in Leipzig - the cradle of electroplating in Germany. The museum at Torgauer Straße 76b in Leipzig is open every third Tuesday afternoon of the month or by appointment. The association also provides rooms for events. Even after 15 years, the museum is still alive and needs members to realize further projects.
