BASF's Efflorescence color concept shows how sustainability and design can be combined. The one-coat paint combines all functions in one layer - including a pearlescent effect without the use of conventional effect pigments. With a light reflection of more than 65 percent, it also ensures that the vehicle heats up less.
This approach has now been recognized as part of the Red Dot Award Design Concept, one of the world's most prestigious competitions, in which innovations are recognized as pioneers for the great products of tomorrow.
In Asian culture, white has always been an important color space. With Efflorescence, BASF has created a white one-coat paint with a unique appearance that can normally only be achieved by applying several layers of effect pigments. This unmistakable texture is based on resin beads specially incorporated into the paint, reveals Chiharu Matsuhara, Head of Automotive Color Design for the Asia-Pacific region.
BASF already received an award in July for its Zenomenon color, whose paint formulation is based on polymer structures.
