Weinreich: Temperature control systems for the electroplating industry

Weinreich Industriekühlung GmbH has been supplying customized temperature control systems for the electroplating industry for more than four decades. The requirements for system technology have changed fundamentally since then. Today, it is more important than ever to design the systems precisely and in detail for the application and to take into account the different temperature requirements of the individual baths and processes. Traditional recooling systems with too low a flow temperature and heat exchangers that have too high a thermal spread inevitably lead to inefficient system operation.

For Weinreich, the focus is on the energy efficiency of systems in order to be able to guarantee operators long-term economic production. The systems planned and produced by Weinreich also meet the requirements of the BAFA subsidy programs and thus provide a subsidy of up to 40% of the system purchase price.

The strict requirements for maximum energy efficiency can only be achieved through system planning with experience and foresight: For example, when planning a new system, the chiller and the bath heat exchangers are defined to an optimized and coordinated operating point. The result is an air-cooled high-performance split chiller equipped with performance-regulated screw compressors "Made in Germany". To increase the compressor coefficient of performance, the condensing temperature is regulated on a sliding scale depending on the outside temperature and the condenser is equipped with regulated EC fans. For further savings and thus to reduce the load on the chiller, a free cooler circuit was added, which can completely take over the cooling capacity of the chiller up to an outside temperature of +8 °C. This free cooler is also equipped with controlled EC fans.

The various circuits with their supply and return flows are intelligently combined in a 3-chamber tank system and fed into the various circuits from there via speed-controlled pumps. The anodizing baths with the higher working temperature compared to the other baths have separate, externally arranged plate heat exchangers, which ensure a constant temperature in the anodizing bath via magnetically coupled pumps made of PVDF.

The cooling water is also fed through a filter system and a water treatment system to make the entire chiller even more stable.

The entire system is controlled via a Siemens S7 PLC and visualized via a 12" touch panel. The integrated energy monitoring can be documented and read via the control system.

Weinreich also focused on ease of maintenance: by using the latest control technology, the system can be maintained remotely in order to determine the cause directly in the event of a fault. The Weinreich technicians can then rectify faults immediately from the company headquarters in Lüdenscheid in South Westphalia, provide repair instructions or send a technician with the right spare parts in a targeted manner. This saves additional costs and protects the environment by avoiding unnecessary journeys and transportation.
