Customized connectors for demanding applications

Yamaichi Electronics is making a name for itself as a specialist for individualized connectors in customer-specific developments. "There is a growing demand for customer-specific applications - especially in the field of connectors," says Benedikt Behr, Product Manager at Yamaichi. "Despite the wide range of standard connectors, an off-the-shelf solution is often only suitable for specific applications to a limited extent."

An online overview has been created for users to provide information about these processes. According to Behr, one of the most important advantages of customized connectors is the potential for economic savings. Investments in development, tooling and equipment lead to improved product performance, optimized design and functionality, reduced material waste and increased efficiency. Custom connectors could provide a significant advantage in highly competitive industries, and custom connectors can help companies reduce their reliance on standard solutions available to their competitors. Companies could protect their intellectual property and reduce the risk of product copying. Application-specific solutions ensure service and support over the entire product life cycle. Behr emphasizes the importance of special support for the manufacturer: specifications and requirements, schedule, project team, feasibility and manufacturability analysis, development with design and process FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), plus prototyping and definition of test criteria with test planning, testing and qualification based on relevant norms and standards in the test laboratory. According to Behr, the development centers in Munich and Sousse/Tunisia enable Yamaichi Electronics to react quickly to customer requirements and provide individual solutions. Around 110 engineers in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering work at both locations.
