Courses for surface coaters

Question: We have several trainees in all years of their apprenticeship. The vocational school only prescribes a few textbooks, most of it is taught without books. We have seen that your publishing house offers numerous books and online courses. Unfortunately, we find it difficult to put together the right teaching material for each year of training given the wide range on offer. Could you give us a guide to the requirements of the individual years of training and exam preparation?

Answer: Eugen G. Leuze Verlag now offers more than 180 specialist and textbooks. In addition, there are online courses, the "Galvanotechnik for you" booklets published four times a year and the trade journals. It really isn't easy to keep track of everything.

Since August 2020, we have been offering a "Fachbuch Finder" [1]. This small program allows interested parties to find the right specialist book by answering simple questions. This makes the search easier, but does not provide a clear guide.

1st year of apprenticeship

Our recommendations for the first year of training are somewhat more extensive, as the recommended books and courses are used across all three years of training.

Introduction to electroplating course [2]

The course lasts 8 hours and is the perfect introduction to the profession. In addition to numerous cases for areas of application and processes, it offers quite motivating approaches. In addition, the principle of electroplating is explained in great detail and continued using the example of nickel and silver. The 148 exercise questions ensure that the knowledge imparted has actually been learned.

Reaction equations course [3]

A short, intensive introduction to chemistry. In two hours (with 60 exercises), students learn everything they need to know about reaction equations.

Calculating bath additions course [4]

This course, which also lasts two hours, will accompany your students for at least two years. It builds on the "Reaction equations" course and teaches the basics for calculating bath additions after analysis. In addition to simple calculations, such as pre-treatment, nickel electrolyte and cyanide copper electrolyte are treated as practical examples.

Book Technical Mathematics for Electroplating [5]

This textbook is used at most vocational schools. It is specially designed to meet the needs of surface coating. Geometry, calculations with molar masses, volume, deposition parameters and electronics are explained using examples. There are also 1700 exercises and a solution booklet.

The Galvano calculator [6] is also available online. This can be used to carry out all the calculations from the math book - and much more. The calculator offers options for calculating coil coatings, environmental technology, mechanics and chemistry. There are also tables (depositable metals and electrolyte properties). The formulas are included with all calculations. After entering the values, the general formula is filled with the values after the calculation. This makes the calculation easy to follow.

Book Chemistry for electroplating and surface technology [7]

Provides all the basics of inorganic and organic chemistry for all three years of training, often used by prospective technicians, master craftsmen and engineers.

2nd year of apprenticeship

Environmental technology course part 1 - waste water treatment [10]

In 6 hours and with 139 practice questions, students learn everything they need to know about wastewater treatment. All the substances that cause problems are covered in detail. In addition to the theoretical basics, e.g. the precipitation process and numerous reaction equations, practical matters are also dealt with in detail.

3rd year

Book Textbook for electroplaters and surface coaters (learning level 3) [11]

The third book in the series deals with other electroplating processes as well as melting processes, printed circuit board technology, anodizing, thin-film technology and much more.

Course on electroplating nickel [12]

This online course lasts 9 hours and contains 169 exercise questions on the subject of nickel electroplating. It is therefore very comprehensive. Each relevant Ni bath is described in detail. Many of the theoretical principles, as well as practical tips, can be applied to other electrolytes.

Book Technology of Electroplating [13]

This 1210-page work covers many topics from the previous recommendations. A very good, practice-oriented reference work that readers will continue to use long after their training.

Book Galvanotechnik in Frage und Antwort [14]

With 2590 questions and the corresponding answers on more than 900 pages. Ideal for exam preparation, especially for testing each other in study groups. A must for exam preparation.
