100 years of WECO

100 years of WECO

The manufacturer of fasteners for the electronics and electrical engineering sectors is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Founded as Elektrotechnische Fabrik on June 21, 1921 in Hanau by Rudolf Wester and Eugen Ebbinghaus, WECO has developed into a global supplier with headquarters in Montreal. The company has subsidiaries in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, Latin America and North Africa. In addition to industry, the core markets for connection solutions are automotive, transportation and the renewable energy market.

The 50s and 60s were characterized by the entry into the automation and telecommunications industry with the luster terminal block series or screw terminal blocks. With certification to DIN ISO 9001 in 1993, the company was able to supply larger international customers. As a result, the international workforce grew to almost 400 employees by the mid-1990s. In 2009, WECO found itself in a difficult economic situation and the company, then known as WECO Wester, Ebbinghaus GmbH & Co KG, became insolvent. As a result, WECO Contact GmbH was founded in 2010.

Under the leadership of the new CEO, Heiner Kammann, the company began to globalize and standardize its subsidiaries. Kammann brought WECO back to profitability by eliminating redundancies and focusing the company on its established markets and customers.
