The 17th International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering PSE2020 will take place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen from September 6 to 11, 2020. With 800 international participants, the English-language conference is an established forum in the field of plasma and ion-assisted surface engineering. It takes place every two years.
The event offers the opportunity to present and learn about innovations in research and development as well as their industrial application. The topics range from the basics, such as process modeling and simulation of plasma or surface physics, to experimental studies on the correlation of process parameters with the structural and functional properties of modified surfaces and applications in industrial production.
The conference will be accompanied by an industrial exhibition with around 70 exhibitors. The high proportion of participants from industry (36% in 2018) enables a lively exchange between basic researchers and developers from companies and industry-related institutes.

The focus topic of the conference will include an industry workshop 'Plasma Technology for Novel Energy Concepts', which will deal with plasma technologies for new energy concepts such as hydrogen generators, fuel cells and batteries. What contribution can surface technology make to making new energy concepts competitive with traditional energy technology? Speakers from the industry will discuss possibilities and potentials. Topics include the reduction of the corrosion sensitivity of bipolar plates in fuel cells through coatings, the reduction of hydrogen embrittlement on titanium components in electrolyzers, new systems for hydrogen production in solar cells and new developments in battery technology. The workshop is organized by Dr. Jan-Gerrit van der Kolk, Ionbond Netherlands.
