A newly founded alliance of the electronics industry is calling on companies to support its appeal against overregulation and for a reduction in bureaucracy. The alliance comprises around 1,000 companies, several 10,000 employees and has an annual turnover in the double-digit billion range. The current members are the Fachverband Bauelemente Distribution (FBDi), the Fachverband Elektronikdesign und -fertigung (FED) and the Component Obsolescence Group Deutschland (COGD).
According to the alliance's appeal, the German electronics industry consists mainly of medium-sized companies that are increasingly struggling with growing bureaucracy and reporting obligations. Smaller companies without specialized departments are particularly affected by the additional workload. Strict EU and US regulations lead to a disproportionate amount of documentation and processes, which puts SMEs in the EU in particular at a disadvantage in international comparison. It is perceived as a particular burden that companies with lowCO2 emissions have to make the same effort as those with higher emissions. In the long term, this policy could lead to an exodus of industries, which would run counter to greater independence from China and the USA.
The Alliance proposes simplifying and standardizing legislation, eliminating redundant regulations and reducing reporting obligations for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Legislation should be limited to a European model that focuses on the main sources of damage and emissions.
