The West Franconian electronics company Dommel, based in Wassertrüdingen near Ansbach, celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. Around 300 guests, including business partners, employees and their families, gathered to honor the company's founding in 1972.
In speeches, Karin Bucher, head of the Ansbach Chamber of Industry and Commerce office, and business promoter Thomas Merkel unanimously emphasized how fortunate family-run companies like Dommel are for the region.
Managing Director Frank Dommel emphasized that the company intends to remain in Wassertrüdingen. His father Wilfried founded the company in 1972, initially as an engineering office that worked for large companies. This was later followed by production services, so that PCBs were assembled from 1978 onwards. The current company headquarters were built in 2000. In 2012, another location was added - a former DIY store. Today, electronic components are processed at Dommel in a matter of seconds. Even before the coronavirus crisis, Dommel began to improve many processes by digitizing its materials management. For example, internal processes were improved as part of a working student's bachelor's thesis, and supplier interfaces are now used to transfer over 25,000 data records in the form of current prices from a total of 19 suppliers into the system every night. This means that quotations can be prepared much more quickly and production can be supplied with materials in good time.
Despite supply bottlenecks during the coronavirus pandemic, Frank Dommel says the company has been able to deliver and has benefited from having pushed ahead with digitalization in good time. The working student, who is partly to thank for this optimization, has now taken on a management position in the company.
