Digital transformation of industrial plants for IIoT

Pepperl+Fuchs, which specializes in industrial sensor technology and explosion protection, is working together with Bosch Digital Twins Industries and Syntax in the IIoT area (Industrial Internet of Things). With a jointly developed model, the companies are demonstrating how easily aggregated data can be transferred to established cloud platforms such as AWS or MS-Azur.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) relies on comprehensive sensor and process data from the field level. This requires this data to be transferred to the IIoT in a secure and reliable manner. The Digital Twin Starter Kit developed by Pepperl+Fuchs simulates a real application. The kit consists of powerful sensors, an IO-Link master and a fanless embedded PC as well as all other components that require seamless integration of the hardware.

The IO-Link master serves as an interface between the sensors and the embedded PC for pre-processing and aggregating the data from the field level, which is then transferred to Bosch's digital twin platform, the so-called Intelligence Core. The integrated IAPM (Intelligent Asset Performance Management) solution uses a simulation model to analyze the data in real time.

The use of machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligence enables, for example, the prediction of potential failures, the optimization of maintenance plans or provides recommendations for action. Preventive intervention thus ensures trouble-free operation of the production plant.

The starter kit configures itself after connecting to the Internet and switching on the power. The open platform and open communication standards promise high flexibility and individual scalability.
