EMS: Networking for new Industry 4.0 solutions

The shift towards greater flexibility and specialization is also in full swing at EMS companies. The members of the 'SEF Smart Electronic Factory e.V.' initiative are working on the standards required for this.

"As an EMS service provider, we find ourselves in a buyer's market: Increasingly individual customer requirements determine the business. Increasingly complex products and faster product cycles are in demand," explains Torsten Bethke, Managing Director of SEF new member micronex GmbH. "Increasing digitalization in manufacturing can provide crucial support in implementing these requirements, but also requires easy-to-use solutions, corresponding standards and interfaces."

The aim of the SEF is to jointly develop digitalization solutions for manufacturing companies that take man, machine and material into account in a cost-optimized manner while also enabling high performance and quality.

Research institutions and industrial companies are involved in the Industry 4.0 initiative, which was founded in 2015. A primary goal is to pave the way for digitization and networking for SMEs. To this end, the association designs, tests and validates Industry 4.0 applications in a real electronics factory in Limburg/Lahn. This results in solutions and standards that can be used to implement the digital transformation in factories.
