EMS provider BMK calls its supply chain security team the Special Purchasing Command - or SEK for short. The company explains that although the coronavirus pandemic has given a strong boost to the digitalization of society, the growing electronics market has also found itself in an extreme allocation situation due to the effects of the pandemic on manufacturing and transport, natural disasters in Asia and now also the Russia-Ukraine conflict: "The entire supply chain has been shaken." EMS companies are in a sandwich position here because manufacturers know their market power and use it in the area of allocations. As EMS companies, they are now trying to find solutions and alternatives to avoid delivery delays or even delivery failures. BMK's strategy is bearing fruit, as evidenced by the fact that it has once again received the Supplier Excellence Award from image processing specialist IDS.
Thomas Häring from BMKThesynergies from BMK's networked setup with its headquarters in Augsburg, the other locations in the Czech Republic and Israel, as well as the direct sourcing base in China, have made the supply chain more transparent and secure. Since last year, BMK's strategic purchasing has been supported by the aforementioned SEK team, which consists of cross-divisional experts. On the one hand, it creates daily transparency regarding availability and delivery times for the customer and, on the other, helps to implement escalations to suppliers and second sourcing. In addition, according to the company, creativity is also required in production planning. These measures make a significant contribution to ensuring that customers remain able to deliver in the current tense component market situation.
IDS Imaging Development Systems also appreciates this. The company is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2022 and both companies can look back on a trusting partnership from the very beginning. Thanks to intensive cooperation with sometimes weekly agreements on components, BMK supported the realization of the timely market launch of new IDS cameras and short-term redesigns due to component availability. Alexander Lewinsky, COO and member of the IDS management board: "Thanks to the open and honest communication between our two companies, we were able to solve many challenges in the procurement market together in a timely and pragmatic manner." BMK sees the renewed recognition of BMK with the IDS Supplier Excellence Award as confirmation of this customer-oriented approach.
