Taniobis expands production capacity in Thailand for functional tantalum powder

Taniobis GmbH in Goslar, a subsidiary of JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation, is investing a total of € 28 million in its plant in Map Ta Phut in Thailand. The aim is to expand and significantly increase production capacity for the manufacture of functional tantalum powder. Following planning, construction and initial commissioning, the facilities are to be gradually put into operation by 2025.

Tantalum is a rare metal that is primarily used in electronics (especially in capacitors and semiconductors). The smallest capacitors in particular, the demand for which is constantly increasing in mobile devices and telecommunications infrastructures, are manufactured using this material. "Under the current circumstances, demand for tantalum will continue to rise. For this reason, it is likely to become increasingly difficult to meet this demand with existing facilities alone. We have therefore decided to increase our production capacity for functional tantalum powder," explains Iida Kazuhiko, CEO of Taniobis. In addition to expanding overall production capacity, the plan includes the construction of a new building for analysis to strengthen the quality control system. The company will also build additional new development and testing facilities in order to be flexible and able to respond quickly to customer requests. The aim is to continue to ensure a stable supply of advanced materials, which are essential for state-of-the-art devices and thus contribute to the development and innovation of new technologies.
