In order to meet the increasing requirements for printed circuit boards for medical technology products, AT&S laid the foundation stone for new and expanded production technologies at the plant in Ansan, South Korea, with an official ground-breaking ceremony in mid-December 2019. The Austrian printed circuit board manufacturer will invest around € 30 million over the next two financial years. The investments planned for the current financial year have already been budgeted.
The technology upgrade will provide the Korean plant with around 8,000 m2 of additional production space from the end of 2020, most of which will be used to manufacture PCBs for medical technology applications. This will ensure that existing and new customers always receive the latest connection technology. The additional production space will be used for new production systems, which will be installed by December 2020 and should receive all the necessary customer qualifications by mid-2021.
AT&S's high-tech printed circuit boards are used, for example, in hearing aids with special sensors for targeted noise suppression or in cardiac catheters that enable 3D images of the inside of the human heart.
With this investment, the company also wants to send a clear signal to the market that applications in the field of medical technology are an important part of AT&S's strategy.
