Hardware-supported tools for emulation and prototyping

Siemens Digital Industries Software introduced the Veloce CS verification and validation system in February. A first in the EDA industry, it incorporates hardware emulation, enterprise prototyping and software prototyping to accelerate verification and validation cycles tenfold and reduce total cost of ownership fivefold.

An innovative, modular and scalable blade footprint eliminates the need for fixed package sizes and provides hardware-assisted tools for all design sizes - from small to very large. Veloce CS is based on two state-of-the-art ICs - the new, specially developed Crystal accelerator chip from Siemens for emulation and the adaptive SoC FPGA AMD Versal Premium VP1902 for enterprise and software prototyping. The solution includes three new services:

  • Veloce Strato CS hardware for emulation
  • Veloce Primo CS hardware for enterprise prototyping
  • Veloce proFPGA CS hardware for software prototyping

Designed for congruency, speed and modularity on all three platforms, the Veloce CS system supports design sizes from 40 million gates to more than 40 billion gates. In addition, Veloce CS executes full system workloads with superior transparency and congruency by selecting the right tool for the job. This enables much faster project execution and helps to reduce the cost per test cycle.

Veloce Strato CS offers a significant improvement in emulation performance over Veloce Strato. Both run on the same operating system, ensuring exceptional congruence while providing the freedom to seamlessly switch between platforms. This can significantly speed up boot-up, setup time, troubleshooting and workload execution.

Veloce proFPGA CS is the industry's fastest and most comprehensive software prototyping solution that can scale from one FPGA to hundreds. This exceptional performance combined with the highly flexible and modular design can help dramatically accelerate firmware, operating system, application development and system integration tasks.

The entire Veloce CS system is available in a modular blade configuration that meets modern data center requirements for ease of installation, low power consumption, excellent cooling and compact footprint. In addition, the Veloce proFPGA CS solution offers a desktop lab version for added user flexibility. Veloce CS is qualified to run on the latest HP DL385g11 servers with AMD EPYC CPU. Customers have access to the comprehensive portfolio of apps and solutions included in all three new Veloce CS systems. The Veloce Strato CS system is already available for selected partner customers. General availability is planned for summer 2024. The system will then be cloud-ready.
