Printed circuit board production in Schopfheim closes

Würth Elektronik Circuit Board Technology, a PCB manufacturer headquartered in Niedernhall, Baden-Württemberg, and one of the largest PCB manufacturers in Europe, announced the planned closure of PCB production in Schopfheim at a works meeting on October 7.

In future, orders will be manufactured at the production sites in Niedernhall and Rot am See in Baden-Württemberg. According to the press release, the decisive factor is the current worst crisis in the history of the PCB industry in Europe with a dramatic slump in incoming orders.

Daniel Klein, Managing Director of Würth Elektronik Circuit Board Technology, commented on the decision as follows: "Unfortunately, we currently see no alternative to discontinuing production in Schopfheim. This measure is necessary in order to minimize losses and ensure the long-term competitiveness of the company." The consolidation of the production sites enables stable capacity utilization at the other German plants and a focus on an economically healthy future.

More than 300 jobs will be affected by the closure of production in Schopfheim. According to Andreas Gimmer, Managing Director of Würth Elektronik, the management and the works council have already started talks on a reconciliation of interests and a social plan.
