The new thick-film conformal coating from Lackwerke Peters ELPEGUARD UV Twin-Cure DSL 1707 NV-FLZ combines the advantages of fast UV curing with the final properties of a silicone.
According to Stefan Schröder, Global Product Manager Conformal Coating, the silicone structure of the thick-film coating ensures a high long-term temperature resistance of approx. 180 °C. It is characterized by almost constant elasticity down to a temperature of -40 °C. Peters turned to its partner Novagard Solutions from Cleveland, Ohio, for the development and production of this new protective coating.
In contrast to the previously introduced ELPEGUARD UV Twin-Cure DSL 1707 FL coating system, which can only be applied using a dispenser, the new coating can also be sprayed and is therefore suitable for coating entire assemblies. In terms of sustainability, the thick-film coating scores highly due to the absence of any solvent emissions. The dual curing mechanism of the Twin-Cure systems ensures short process times, which saves time and money in the production process. In addition, the coating can be easily repaired. The new silicone protective coating is particularly suitable for high-temperature applications, as the silicone remains permanently elastic. Higher layer thicknesses are selectively possible.
According to Stefan Schröder, climatic stability and flame resistance in accordance with customer specifications were the most important requirements in the development of this new product. The product has been certified in accordance with UL 746E. The coating withstands sudden electric shocks and retains its dielectric integrity. The result is optimum protection of the coated assembly.
