This AVX product innovation PrizmaCap is suitable for operating temperatures from -55 to +90 °C and therefore has the largest temperature range currently available. The new SuperCap comes with an extremely flat (from 0.8 mm) and lightweight, flexible housing. To avoid overload scenarios caused by high soldering temperatures, the single-pole BTB contact of the 70-9159 series from AVX Interconnect can be used for connection to the PCB. The prismatic supercapacitors from AVX are available from Rutronik.
The electrolyte technology based on propylene carbonate (PC) in combination with a flat design addresses applications with high temperatures and limited space, which are not covered by conventional supercapacitors. At operating temperatures above 65 °C, voltage derating from 2.1 to 1.1 V is recommended to ensure a long service life.
PrizmaCap is ideal for wearables or handheld devices to support the primary battery with peak power or as energy storage in energy harvesting applications. Furthermore, the SuperCap offers a solution for certain wireless devices such as Bluetooth keyboards, where the superior fast charging function of the supercapacitor technology comes into play.
The footprint, height and capacity can be customized to suit the project volume. The cap is available in the values 3.5/8.5/15 F. Further capacity values and footprints are already being qualified. The current delivery time is 18 weeks.
