Generate electricity from exhaust gases! Alfa Laval has developed a compact heat exchanger for waste heat recovery in a wide range of industrial applications. The new Alfa Laval Micro system can recover energy from combustion processes from almost any source of hot exhaust gases.
Alfa Laval is an established supplier of large waste heat recovery systems for the marine industry. As a significantly smaller development of these marine systems, the new Alfa Laval Micro heat exchanger is designed for use on land. A typical application is power stations with combined heat and power plants that produce electricity and heat at the same time. The extremely compact heat exchanger is particularly suitable for recovering waste heat from smaller gas turbines and engines. The system uses the waste heat to heat media such as water, triethylene glycol (TEG) and thermal oil (TFO). This opens up possibilities for many industrial applications, from steam generation to heating thermal fluids and boiler feed water.
Converting hot exhaust gases up to 600 °C into electricity
Alfa Laval Micro has a heating surface of coaxial tubes bundled in a vertical or horizontal cylindrical plate. The robust heat exchanger achieves an output of 250 to 5000 kW and is suitable for hot exhaust gases up to 600 °C. The output can be adjusted according to requirements. The small footprint and low maintenance requirements are particularly advantageous. Cleaning can be carried out while the machine or turbine is running by means of a pyrolysis process in dry operation or by using compressed air, water and steam.
