Quality rating for sustainability: Constellium plant in Neuf-Brisach certified by the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative

Paris, December 8, 2020 - The Constellium plant in Neuf-Brisach, France, has been certified to the Performance Standard of the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative ("ASI") and its Chain of Custody Standard. This certification covers recycling, the foundry and the plant's rolling and finishing processes. With certification to both ASI standards, the Neuf-Brisach site can now offer responsibly sourced solutions by utilizing its recycling capacity as well as its ASI certified supply chain. For customers, this means that they receive seamlessly independently certified and sustainably produced rolled aluminum products.

"We are very proud of this success. Our customers and society demand sustainable and environmentally friendly products that are produced responsibly. Our recycling capabilities combined with the certification are another step towards meeting this demand," said Peter Basten, President of the Packaging & Automotive Rolled Products Business Unit at Constellium. "This certification combined with our ambitious sustainability strategy demonstrates our commitment to building a circular economy and optimizing the overall life cycle impact of aluminum."

"We congratulate Constellium on achieving double certification at the Neuf-Brisach site," says Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer of ASI. "The use of recycled aluminum is an important argument for customers who demand material that has a reduced carbon footprint. The ASI certifications guarantee aluminum products that are produced responsibly, helping to improve the sustainability credentials of customers' products as well," said Solomon.

Constellium is an industry leader in the sustainable production and recycling of aluminum products, a metal that combines strength, light weight and endless recyclability. The company is committed to promoting a sustainable aluminum supply chain and is consistently pursuing ASI certification at additional sites. Constellium is also working with its main suppliers to support their ASI certifications.

The Neuf-Brisach plant is one of Constellium's largest sites with an annual production capacity of around 450,000 tons. The plant mainly supplies customers from the packaging and automotive industries in Europe. Neuf-Brisach has five recycling furnaces that can recycle up to 150,000 tons of aluminum per year.
