Change at the top of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Hanselka becomes the 11th President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The Senate of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft unanimously elected the current President of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Dresden as the successor to Prof. Dr. Reimund Neugebauer. Neugebauer had been at the helm of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft for almost eleven years. "Holger Hanselka is the right person in the right office at the right time for Fraunhofer.

His high scientific reputation, his profound knowledge of national and international scientific organizations, his many years of experience in the transformation and further development of scientific institutions as well as in the management of institutions set him apart. Building on this, I am certain that he will lead Fraunhofer into a successful future with flair, drive and great passion in times of challenging and constant change," said Hildegard Müller, Chairwoman of the Senate of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. She referred to Hanselka's many years of management experience, including at the helm of the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability LBF in Darmstadt. "As a leader, Holger Hanselka knows how to spur people on to top performance through collaboration. It is precisely this team spirit that will lead Fraunhofer into a successful future." At its annual meeting in Dresden, the Fraunhofer Senate thanked Prof. Dr.-Ing. Neugebauer for his commitment at the helm of the company: "As Fraunhofer President, Reimund Neugebauer has shaped Germany as a high-tech location for more than a decade and developed the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, which now has over 30,000 employees, into the world's leading institution for application-oriented research," said Hildegard Müller. New fields of research such as energy technologies, quantum technologies, artificial intelligence and smart farming have been established and expanded. Since Neugebauer took office, the total budget of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has increased from 1.9 to around 3 billion euros and the number of institutes has grown from 64 to the current 76. "The Senate and the entire Fraunhofer family would like to thank him for this achievement," said Hildegard Müller, Chairwoman of the Senate of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.
