Does it make sense to produce green hydrogen on a large scale in Germany? A new study by the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy gGmbH on behalf of the NRW Renewable Energy Association says yes.
One of the key findings: The expected production costs for green hydrogen in Germany have fallen compared to previous studies. Most of the studies reviewed by the Wuppertal Institute indicate that they are lower than the cost of importing hydrogen by ship. They are also said to be competitive in many cases compared to importing hydrogen by pipeline.

One manufacturer of electrolysers for the production of green hydrogen is Dresden-based Sunfire GmbH, which recently took over the MTV NT electroplating plant in Solingen and is currently converting it. Hydrogen production in Germany is naturally in the interests of the company, which is already gaining experience with the operation of large-scale electrolysers in an industrial environment. According to the company, it is already pursuing projects with major companies such as RWE, Uniper and Salzgitter.
