Companies must report waste heat

Companies must report waste heat

The aim is to reduce energy consumption with specific measures. One of these measures: Companies must not only carry out energy audits, draw up implementation plans and set up energy or environmental management systems, but also report their waste heat potential. Reporting is mandatory for annual energy consumption of more than 2.5 GWh via the waste heat platform. The aim is to increase energy efficiency by making greater use of waste heat, among other things. Waste heat "is basically that part of the heat that is generated as an unintentional by-product in a process or plant whose purpose is the production of a product, the provision of a service or the conversion of energy." A distinction is made between conducted and diffuse waste heat sources: The waste heat is either technically channeled and transported or conducted in a defined manner, e.g. through cooling water, via a chimney or a ventilation system. Or the energy is released directly, e.g. as waste heat from a furnace, which is released into the hall air by radiation and then escapes through windows, doors or air locks. In principle, waste heat should be avoided or reused within the company. You will find out more in an upcoming issue of "Galvanotechnik".
