For over 25 years, Kyocera's site in Mannheim Friedrichsfeld has been known for the production of solutions for wastewater neutralization and exhaust air purification. The FRIDURIT brand in particular offers outstanding properties for the treatment of exhaust air and waste water from chemical laboratories.
With the FRIDURIT C100 neutralization system, FRIATEC developed a compact and easily integrated neutralization system in the 1990s, which set new standards in terms of safety thanks to its innovative mixing-pump unit and its hose-free supply of dosing chemicals. This mature and proven product was continued after the sale of the laboratory technology division to Kyocera and, thanks to a growing range of accessories, is also able to implement individual solutions cost-effectively.
An example of this is a disposal solution for waste water from a chemical laboratory in Karlsruhe, which was produced as an interim laboratory in a container design. Due to the special structural features, the wastewater from the discharge points must be pumped via chemical-proof lifting units to a central neutralization unit, where it can be disposed of into the local sewer system after treatment with acid or alkali in compliance with the permitted pH limits.
In order to ensure smooth operation of the wastewater disposal system, a buffer volume of 500 liters was required between the lifting units and the neutralization unit, so that in normal operation no interruption of the usual laboratory disposal is necessary during wastewater treatment. The challenge here was the limited space of around 1.5 m² that was allowed for the installation of the buffer tank and the neutralization system.
The design engineers in Mannheim solved this problem with a customer-specific tank in panel construction, which both provides sufficient buffer volume and serves as an installation area for the neutralization system. The tank was installed within a safety basin in accordance with the applicable regulations. The wastewater is pumped from the tank to the neutralization system by a self-priming pump and, after treatment, is fed directly into the wastewater pipe. The complete solution was pre-assembled by the manufacturer so that the system could be installed in just a few hours.
