Chemist Dr. Reinhold Hoffmann celebrated his 80th birthday in mid-January. After completing his training as an electroplater with a certificate as a skilled worker, Reinhold Hoffmann attended evening school, graduated from high school and began studying chemistry at the University of Dortmund. During his studies, he taught chemistry and physics at a grammar school in Dortmund.
After graduating with a degree in chemistry, he remained at the University of Dortmund as a research assistant to write his dissertation. During this time, he was responsible for the training of physics and chemistry laboratory assistants as well as deputy member of the examination board "Chemielaborant chem. Industry" examination board. At the same time, he also worked as a lecturer for basic and master courses at the DGO in Solingen.
From November 1977 until the end of 1995, Dr. Hoffmann was plant manager and member of the management board of a surface technology company that was involved in the production of functional coating systems. In 1988, his book "Chemie für die Galvanotechnik" was published by Leuze Verlag. Dr. Hoffmann was also active as a "Lecturer in Chemistry" at the Märkische Fachhochschule in Iserlohn and as a specialist consultant in chemistry for the voluntary fire departments in the Ennepe-Ruhr district.
I don't know when the old man will retire. But we are very happy!
Dr. Hoffmann has been a publicly appointed expert for electroplating and surface technology since 1993. His areas of expertise are electroplating coatings and processes, mechanical surface treatment and damage to and assessment of electroplating systems. Since 1996, he has also been active as an expert for an expert organization according to VAwS, from 2017 AwSV (testing of systems with water-polluting substances).
Together with co-author Dr. Unruh, Dr. Hoffmann wrote the books "Chemie für die Galvanotechnik und Oberflächentechnik" (2008) and "Lexikon für die Galvanotechnik und Oberflächentechnik" (2013), both published by Leuze-Verlag.
From 2013 to 2021, Dr. Hoffmann was also a guest lecturer at the Chair of Materials Technology at the TU Dortmund University, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, where he taught "Electroplating in Mechanical Engineering". His wife, who has been married to him for 52 years, says: "I don't know when the old man will retire. But we are very happy!"
