Dr. Werner John celebrates his 70th birthday

Dr. Werner John celebrated his 70th birthday on 29 April. From 1968 to 1972, he studied materials and surface technology at the Technical University in his birthplace of Chemnitz (formerly Karl-Marx-Stadt). He completed his subsequent research studies in 1975 with a dissertation. This was followed by military service until 1977 and work as a development engineer at the Research Institute for Non-ferrous Metals in Freiberg.
In September 1985, Dr. John began working as a research assistant at the Chair of Surface Technology at Chemnitz University of Technology, where he also became head of the tribological testing laboratory. In 1992, he was awarded his habilitation by the TU Chemnitz.
Dr. Werner John had already been working at the Solingen Technical College (later TBK Solingen) as head of the electroplating technician training course since autumn 1991. In 1995, he moved to the DGO's specialist and master craftsman training program in Solingen, where he also became course director in 2007.
Dr. John was and is able to contribute his diverse experience as an expert assessor on the master craftsman examination committee of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts and Trades and as a member of the examination committee of the Wuppertal Chamber of Industry and Commerce. He also played a key role in drafting the new master craftsman examination regulations for master electroplaters.
Dr. Werner John has been married to his wife Brigitte, Managing Director of Tritech GmbH, for over 40 years; they have two children. Dr. Werner John has been retired since August 2014.
