Tec-Joint AG can extend the range of applications for fiber composites by using EPDM films.
Today, fiber composites are the material basis for many technical solutions - especially when energy savings and high load-bearing capacity with low weight are required. The properties can be further improved by combining them with different materials. Examples include the many lightweight materials used in the aerospace industry, automotive engineering, the leisure industry, medical technology and mechanical engineering.
However, fiber composites also have their limits, for example in terms of damping behavior and splinter resistance. This is due to the high component stiffness in relation to the weight. However, these and other missing properties can be achieved by combining them with special EPDM films. The elastomer improves the acoustic properties of the material, for example. It is also considerably lighter than frequently used heavy layer mats made of alubutyl. Elastomeric impact protection also reduces the development of splinters in the material, which is a desirable effect for many vehicle body parts, for example. If the film is used to bond CFRP components to aluminum, the elastomer layer serves as a compensating element for temperature loads, among other things. These examples show how fibre-reinforced composites can be specifically optimized for specific applications using films. Tec-Joint not only has many years of experience with elastomer films, but can also produce them in the required thicknesses for specific applications and in a timely manner. The company thus expands the range of applications for fiber composites on a project-specific basis when standard is not a solution.
