The Industrieverband Blechumformung (IBU) and the Fachvereinigung Kaltwalzwerke e. V. (FVK) are calling for an appropriate expansion of the country-specific quotas set out in the EU safeguards for steel. This primarily concerns steel categories 4B and 1. The associations have submitted a corresponding statement on the review of measures initiated by the EU Commission in mid-May. In the opinion of the IBU and FVK, this review is also too early and the assessment period too short.
They fear new uncertainties and market intervention. Their steel-processing members are directly affected by the protective tariffs finally introduced in February. These are intended to prevent a suspected US tariff-induced trade diversion of steel towards the EU and protect their steel manufacturers.
