At the technical college for electroplating in Schwäbisch Gmünd, 20 graduates have passed the demanding master craftsman's examination under the direction of their senior technical teacher Holger Wolf after two years of preparation.
The examination demands both practical and theoretical excellence.
In the first part of the examination, the practical part, the candidates had to independently plan, carry out and document a comprehensive master craftsman examination project. In addition, they had to produce three workpieces from the raw state to the end product in a so-called situation task. Other challenges included carrying out a test analysis, analyzing and optimizing an electrolyte, precise measurements of corrosion and coating thickness as well as a final technical discussion with the examination board.
The second part of the exam put the theoretical knowledge of the prospective master craftsmen to the test. In the subject of electroplating, they had to deal with topics such as technical mathematics, technology, chemistry, materials science, physics and electrical engineering.
Commercial thinking was tested in the area of specialist business management, while technical drawing and calculation skills were the focus of the order processing subject. Successful completion of the master craftsman examination opens up a wide range of career prospects for graduates - whether in a managerial role, as a trainer or with their own business.
