The reliable availability of additives is crucial for the production of coatings and paints. The Coating Additives Business Line has therefore expanded its production capacities for several important additives and increased supply security accordingly. The additives, which are being produced in Shanghai for the first time, belong to the TEGO® Glide and TEGO® Wet product lines. This significant capacity expansion enables reliable product availability not only for Asian customers, but also for coating manufacturers around the world.
The additives in question will now be produced at Evonik's multi-user site in Shanghai in addition to the existing production facilities in Germany. "This means greater security of supply for all our customers worldwide and shorter delivery times for our Asian customers," says Gaetano Blanda, Head of the Business Line. "The capacity expansion also enables us to react more quickly to changing market requirements."
Of course, the product properties and product quality remain the same as for products manufactured in Germany. This applies to specifications, production processes, formulations, quality controls and CAS numbers.
The production facilities in Shanghai are already fully operational and the additives are available to customers worldwide.
The TEGO® Glide series consists of slip and leveling additives that improve the flow, surface finish and therefore the visual appearance of the coating. They also provide anti-cratering, anti-slip and anti-blocking effects. The main areas of application are architectural and wood coatings as well as printing inks.
The TEGO® Wet series includes substrate wetting additives that enable uniform wetting of coatings and printing inks, even on very low-energy or dirty surfaces. Defects in the coating surface such as cratering and poor flow are minimized or improved. Typical areas of application are architectural and wood coatings as well as industrial and plastic coatings.
The Coatings Additives Business Line continuously evaluates its product portfolio in order to improve supply security and delivery reliability. It is currently examining whether further additives can also be produced in Shanghai.
