Prof. Herbert Gleiter receives one of the highest awards in the field of advanced materials

The International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) awarded Professor Herbert Gleiter the prestigious Advanced Materials Laureate 2019 on November 1, 2019. Professor Gleiter is being honored for his significant contributions to the research perspective, the expansion of education, the advancement of materials research and its application on a global scale.
Herbert Gleiter is a pioneer in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology, particularly in nanoglasses and non-crystalline nanomaterials. He holds a PhD in physics from the Technical University of Stuttgart and a PhD in materials science from the University of Bochum. From 1973-1994 he was Professor/Director of the Institute of Materials Science at Saarland University. He was also founding director of the Institute for New Materials, Saarbrücken and director of the Institute for Nanotechnology, Research Center Karlsruhe. Prof. Gleiter has nearly six decades of experience in the field and has been recognized by many countries and scientific organizations including the Leibniz, Max Planck, Humboldt, Heisenberg, von Hippel and Blaise Pascal Medals as well as four honorary doctorates and several honorary professorships. To promote research on advanced materials and innovation on the Asian continent, he founded the Herbert Gleiter Institute of Nanoscience at Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing, China, in 2012.
