On April 13, 2020, Thomas Engert, Managing Director of Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH, Schwäbisch Gmünd, and Head of the Electroplating Business Unit of the Umicore Group, celebrated his 60th birthday.
He joined the company in 1984 as a process engineer immediately after completing his studies in materials science and surface technology at the University of Applied Sciences in Aalen.
In various positions with increasing responsibility, Thomas Engert was able to gain valuable experience at different company locations in the areas of service, production, development, marketing and sales. Engert has been Managing Director of Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH since 2001 and has had global responsibility for the Group's electroplating activities since 2010. Thomas Engert was appointed Senior Vice President in January 2016. He is involved on a voluntary basis in various institutions and in trade and professional associations:

- Surface Technology/New Materials Industry Advisory Board of Aalen University of Applied Sciences
- IHK Research and Innovation Committee
- Association for the Research Institute for Precious Metals and Metal Chemistry, Schwäbisch Gmünd
