VOA leaflets: hot off the press and up to date
The German Association for the Surface Finishing of Aluminum (VOA) revised eight of its 14 data sheets in the first half of 2021. Four of the data sheets deal with anodization, three with coating and one with paint stripping of aluminium. The updated information sheets can be ordered digitally via the association's website and directly from the office.
In the form of its VOA data sheets, the VOA provides members and other interested groups with a broad, well-founded range of information for day-to-day work in the company. Every three years, the VOA project group "Updating the technical bulletins" reviews all technical bulletins with regard to the current state of the art and the standards and literature references listed. Ordinary members and supporting members compile the VOA technical bulletins on a voluntary basis, while Matthias Krämer, Head of Technology at the VOA, coordinates the updating process.
In 2021, the anodizing section was tasked with updating information sheets A 01 "Anodizing of aluminium components", A 02 "Coarse grain marking", A 07 "Resistance of anodized coatings" and A 08 "Anodizing materials management guide". In the area of coating, the members of the project group worked on information sheets B 03 "Water absorption capacity of powder coatings", B 05 "Conversion to chromium VI-free pre-treatment" and B 06 "Guide to materials management for coating". The information sheet "E 01 "Guideline on materials management for paint stripping" has also been updated. Managing Director Dr. Alexa A. Becker says: "The VOA is very keen to pass on practical knowledge, based on the latest scientific and research findings, to its members and interested groups of people. I would like to thank all participants in the project group for their great commitment."
Sustainability is an omnipresent topic these days, which the VOA naturally addresses in its information sheets. The anodizing, coating and paint stripping of aluminium inevitably generates conversion products and other waste. A distinction must be made between recyclable materials, which can be reused, and waste materials, the proportion of which must be minimized and which must be disposed of by specialist companies. The VOA information sheets A 01, B 06 and E 01 support the association's member companies and other companies in carrying out the necessary steps on the basis of European and German legal regulations.
A major advantage for VOA members: they receive their association's leaflets free of charge in printed form or as a PDF file. Leaflets produced in cooperation with other associations such as the Verband Fenster + Fassade e. V. (VFF) are available at a reduced price for members. Non-members can order the information sheets at
www.voa.de for a fee from the association's store or via the office.
