A lot of raw materials can be saved when welding high-performance electronics. This is the result of a study at the German Electron Synchrotron DESY of the Helmholtz Association in Hamburg.
Together with the high-tech company Trumpf and the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, the Hamburg researchers have now investigated laser welding processes used in the manufacture of electric cars. Trumpf, Fraunhofer ILT, DESY and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon each contributed highly specialized knowledge on X-rays, laser sources and welding processes. As a result, insights have now been gained for the first time that remain invisible to the eye and even to microscopes.
