Solar research institute SERIS relies on SALD

The Solar Energy Research Institute in Singapore (SERIS) has upgraded its Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) equipment to the newer Spatial Atomic Layer Deposition (SALD) process, SERIS has announced together with SALD BV of the Netherlands.

The upgrade to the new SALD process brings considerable advantages. In the solar industry, for example, SALD coatings for the new generation of perovskite silicon tandem solar cells can achieve efficiency levels in power conversion that are far above the theoretical limit of pure silicon. SERIS is also planning to use the new SALD system in precisely this area. Thanks to the process, new solar cell materials such as tin oxides and transparent conductive oxides as well as passivation and tunnel recombination layers can be used. Licenses for SERIS technologies are also planned.
