Ultra-thin protective coating sets new standards

A new spray coating for electronic assemblies no longer requires masking for contacting areas. This saves an enormous amount of time. Nevertheless, the coating reliably protects even large components from moisture and other harmful influences.

The supplier of ultra-thin coatings, actnano Inc. from Massachusetts/USA, has now introduced ANG Titan in its coating technology called Advanced nanoGuard (ANG). This differs significantly from all other electronic protective coatings currently available in the industry: it reliably protects against moisture, but maintains the conductivity of bare contact areas - for example, connector pins can be sprayed and then require no post-treatment before the connector is fitted and makes reliable contact.

"ANG Titan therefore represents a quantum leap and, in our estimation, surpasses all processes used on the market for electronics protection coating in terms of value creation potential," explains Jeremy Garbacik, Vice President of Global Sales. "It provides maximum protection for electronics when exposed to harsh environmental conditions such as water, condensation, salt and humidity, while maintaining stability over a wide range of operating temperatures. The unique thing about titanium is that it protects the electronics 100% while still providing electrical conductivity at contact points and surfaces."

The thickness of the protective layer is not relevant. In contrast to conventional protective coatings, it can be applied to connectors. "Spraying on the entire assembly without additional masking steps or the need for barrier zones saves our customers valuable time and money." The low-viscosity material also creeps under large components such as BGAs. This helps to make critical assemblies safe and avoid safety problems, e.g. in driver assistance systems.

ANG Titan also offers numerous environmental benefits. It is made from sustainable materials and contains no harmful fluorine or halogen compounds that are often found in protective coatings. actnano aims to expand its global presence with leading automotive, industrial and consumer electronics manufacturers with this scalable, turnkey solution that can be seamlessly integrated into existing production lines. The company is already a partner to the global automotive and consumer electronics industries. In Europe, actnano is represented by Puretecs GmbH.
