As part of increased efforts to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, the European Union (EU) is working on the implementation of a so-calledcarbon border adjustment system, which would impose a carbon price on the import of certain goods from outside the EU.
In its latest publication, nova-Paper #15 "A Tax on Fossil Carbon is More Effective Than a Tax onCO2 Emissions", the nova-Institute presents and discusses the implementation of thecarbon border adjustment system as a tax on fossil carbon. The proposed Fossil Carbon Tax is a simple, effective and elegant instrument to achieve the objectives of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. It is in line with the EU's ambitious climate targets. It also promotes both the decarbonization of the energy sector and the transformation of the chemicals and derived products sector from fossil to renewable carbon.
