Water recovery through reverse osmosis

Water recovery through reverse osmosis

With CaptuRO, Veolia Water Technologies has developed an innovative reverse osmosis system that takes into account the latest requirements of water-intensive industries and helps to reliably comply with wastewater discharge limits. While the pilot system was installed at a paper manufacturer in the USA, the first CaptuRO units are now already being used on an industrial scale in Europe.

The requirements are similarly ambitious for all of them: To save water consumption and at the same time increase production output. Water recovery with a yield of up to 98% should be possible. The new reverse osmosis (RO) was developed primarily for the treatment of contaminated feed water from industrial process water, rinsing water or waste water and is based on a multi-stage process that achieves the high recovery rates. Upstream systems relieve the membranes of the RO in order to achieve the optimum flow time. In the upstream, for example, high salt concentrations of silicon or calcium sulphate are removed before they have a chance to precipitate. At the same time, the risk of reduced membrane performance due to deposits or fouling is minimized.
