Serfilco-GmbH, based in Monschau near Aachen, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The company was founded in 1961 by Jack Berg, an engineer with German roots in the USA.
In order to be able to offer interested parties and customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland customer-oriented service without language barriers, a branch office for the German-speaking countries was set up in 1997. A sales office was opened in Aachen at the start. After rapid development, the company moved to the newly built Handwerker Innovation Center in Monschau in 1998, where it operates its own warehouse and workshop in addition to modern offices.
The company sells pump solutions such as these through its branch in Monschau near Aachen The Serfilco Group, with its parent company in the USA, is now represented by branches in China, India, the UK and Germany. It specializes in process-optimizing chemical and corrosion-resistant pumps and filters for aggressive and/or hot liquids. The long-term availability of units and spare parts is a Serfilco principle in order to ensure a long service life and thus a high level of investment security for users of Serfilco technology. This seems to be convincing: the company has many regular customers in the D-A-CH region.
For over 60 years, Serfilco has been an important global supplier for plant engineering and industry in the field of chemical and corrosion-resistant pumps and filter systems in electroplating (on metal and plastic), PCB production, aluminium coating (anodizing/hard anodizing, powder and wet paint) and hot-dip galvanizing.
Serfilco is one of the pioneers in the field of fluid movement using nozzle systems. After initial hesitation in the industry, agitation systems based on Serfilco SerDuctor nozzles are now successfully used in surface coating, both in pre-treatment and in process baths. "By switching off air injection and switching to nozzle systems without air, considerable potential for increasing efficiency and reducing costs can be tapped," emphasizes Walter Masur, Head of Marketing and Sales at the German branch. The advantages are
- Reduction of vapors by up to 90
- Reduction of up to 25 % in temperature losses due to discharge via vapors
- Significant reduction in (additional) heating costs
- Reduction of metal / chemical consumption by up to 20
- Increased quality through improved deposition with difficult component geometry, e.g. blind holes/voids, openings or channels
- Reduction of hole formation/roughness
- Reduction of rejects.
SerDuctor systems are also suitable for mixing chemical liquids, for preventing unwanted crystallization or sedimentation in the process tanks and in waste water treatment (neutralization). Agitators are no longer required. This increases efficiency in surface technology and in the paper industry.
When designing agitation systems, the company supports customers and interested parties in the D-A-CH region by inspecting systems and providing planning support. "In our experience, such movement systems should not be installed as standard. To achieve optimum results, we always recommend an individual design. When it comes to the question of which nozzles should be operated in which arrangement with which pump, we draw on our knowledge from thousands of implemented projects worldwide," says Masur.
In electroplating, the nozzle systems support the coating process particularly in difficult component geometries with holes, openings, blind holes or folded profiles, because the process solution is also moved reliably in these areas. "In the anodizing process, heat often builds up in the often narrow gaps between stacked sheets or profiles, which leads to defects and rejects. With a targeted and even flow through these gaps, this can be prevented and the number of rejects significantly reduced," emphasizes Masur. Solutions like these are attracting new customers: "With another series of magnetically coupled pumps with a flow rate of up to 120m3/h, we are increasingly opening up new user areas," reveals Masur, adding: "With the recently launched new filter containers for bags and spaghetti material with three freely selectable connection options or a new type of container made entirely of PVDF, users and system manufacturers have new building blocks for system optimization."
With the three new filter system series HM/JM/FM with connection fittings in accordance with European standards, high-quality filter media and the significant expansion of the pump range, Serfilco believes it is well positioned for the future.
