Anodizing layer thickness measurement

Anodizing layer thickness measurement

Determining the coating thickness is essential in quality control. Hako measuring stations do this without contact using photothermal methods.

Coatingson materials have many functions. Measuring their thickness or uniformity - especially at critical points - is often essential in quality control. Systems based on the photothermal measurement method open up practical possibilities here, as they are suitable for almost all transparent or semi-transparent coatings on all common substrates.

Anodized surfaces are now particularly easy to inspect. The Hako measuring stations from Enovasense, which Polytec now has in its range, are supplied ex works with the appropriate calibration. The user can measure immediately and does not have to reference an uncoated part, even when changing products. This saves working time both in industrial applications and in the laboratory.

Quality control and process optimization

The photothermal measuring systems work without any contact with the object. Lasers and infrared sensors are used to measure the coating of objects of any shape with a radius of curvature of >= 1 mm from working distances of 20 to 40 mm with a repeat accuracy of typically +/-1 µm or +/- 3% of the measured value. The measuring method is offered either as a by-the-line or laboratory control station in two sizes (Hako-L and Hako-S), but can also be integrated directly into the production line if required. The larger Hako-L system is equipped with a 3-axis system. This allows complex parts to be scanned over their entire surface for extended analysis. This enables fast and clear feedback.
