Excursion from June 11-13, 2024: DGO Nuremberg district group

In der Wewelsburg sahen die Teilnehmer eine Ausstellung über die SS

Day 1

The excursion of the DGO Nuremberg district group started early in the morning in Eckental. Other participants were then picked up in Nuremberg. The bus ride towards Gütersloh was already in a good mood, which was further enhanced by a delicious breakfast buffet at a rest stop. The first stop was the Benteler company in Paderborn, where the group was impressed by the ultra-modern pipe production during the tour of the plant. The participants were particularly fascinated by the fact that, despite the highly automated processes, some work steps still have to be carried out manually. The factory tour was followed by a visit to the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumForum. The museum offered an exciting journey through time from the Stone Age to modern computers and impressed with its variety of exhibits. The group spent the evening at the B&B Hotel in Paderborn and rounded off the day with a dinner together, which further strengthened the already established community.

Day 2

After a short night and an early breakfast at the hotel, the group set off on time for Wewelsburg Castle, a triangular castle with profound historical significance. The permanent exhibition "Ideology and Terror of the SS" left a lasting impression on the participants. After this moving visit, the tour continued to the Netherlands to the MiFa company in Venlo. There, the participants were given an informative presentation on the production of extruded aluminum profiles and a tour of the ultra-modern production facility. The various surface treatments and the insight into the in-house electroplating shop left a lasting impression. The drive to the next hotel in Wetzlar offered the opportunity to taste local specialties such as "Maikäferflugbenzin" and to reflect on the impressions of the day. The evening ended with a meal together at the Hotel Blankenfeld.

Day 3

On the last day, the excursion led to the company B + T in Rechtenbach. The participants learned about the many developments of the company since its foundation in 1952, including the introduction of the IT division and the founding of BAG Analytics GmbH. After a presentation, the group was given a tour of the production facilities, where the modern electroplating plants were particularly impressive. The day ended with a visit to Gravitech in Rodgau, where the participants had the opportunity to learn about modern analysis techniques over coffee and cake. After a final farewell, the group set off on their journey home to Nuremberg, enriched by numerous new impressions and insights.
