At the beginning of June, BG Nuremberg set off on an excursion to the Bavarian Forest in a modern luxury coach. A small breakfast and a well-stocked selection of drinks made for an entertaining journey to the first day's destination in Thyrnau near Passau. The two junior managers of MMR Eyewear Brillenmanufaktur Thyrnau gave a guided tour of the individual factory areas, where the respective production steps for spectacle frames, temples and hinges were presented. The company is proud of its expertise in terms of craftsmanship, material know-how and in-house machine and tool construction.

MMR produces exclusive eyewear for renowned manufacturers and designers. In addition to so-called "acetate", a bio-based plastic, special frames are made from silver, which only achieves the high strength and elasticity required for eyewear through embossing and other mechanical shaping processes.

Other materials are also occasionally used at the customer's request. The excursion participants learned how surprisingly many individual steps are required for the production of high-quality spectacle frames.

The next item on the program was Elektrovac Hermetic Packages in Salzweg, a manufacturer of hermetically sealed glass-to-metal connections, which Managing Director Alfred Füllgraf presented to the BG Group. The company manufactures glass-to-metal feedthroughs that are used when electronic components, but also pyrotechnic charges for detonators, for example, need to be sealed off from the outside environment in a durable manner and without any loss of performance. A glass-to-metal bushing typically consists of a metal outer part, a molded glass part and one or more inner conductors. These components are hermetically sealed at approx. 1000 °C in an inert gas atmosphere.

The BG management team presented gift bags to the managing directors and the supervisors of the two guided tours as a thank you for the warm welcome and the insights into the production processes.
