Fastening technology expert EJOT turns 100 years old

The EJOT Group specializes in fastening technology and has developed over the last 100 years from a small "nail shop" into a medium-sized, globally positioned group of companies.

It all began on a small scale in the workshop of company founder Adolf Böhl in Berghausen near Bad Berleburg: the EJOT Group now has more than 3800 employees in 35 countries worldwide. "The fact that our group has already existed for over three generations is a good sign - for us, because we have successfully asserted ourselves against the competition for our customers and because it symbolizes reliability and can strengthen trust," emphasizes the Managing Partner of the EJOT Group, Christian Kocherscheidt. "Stoking the fire, but not preserving the ashes." EJOT will certainly also look back on the past 100 years, but the focus should be on the next 100 years: What needs to be done to improve the conditions for the coming years? What makes the company special and how can it remain successful in competition? What major technological, geopolitical and economic developments can be expected?

Preservation of the family business

A central aspect of the strategic orientation is the preservation of the family business EJOT, which, as a company independent of the capital market with a broad customer base, can defend its independence and pursue its own strategies. To this end, the company changed its legal form from EJOT GmbH & Co KG to EJOT SE in 2022 - a legal form that strengthens the character of the family business of European origin.

Another important aspect is the increasing technological dynamism: digitalization, the emerging change in mobility, but also the requirements to make climate change compatible for everyone. In order to remain at the forefront of these technological changes in the future, the EJOT Group wants to focus more on the markets in North America and Asia.

Climate neutrality to be achieved by 2035

A major challenge in the coming years will be the transformation of the EJOT Group towards climate neutrality. To this end, concrete goals have been formulated for the EJOT Group that will accompany the company over the current decade: The group wants to reduce itsCO2 emissions from the current 188,400 tons per year to zero by 2035. "This is one of EJOT's most important tasks for the future," emphasizes Christian Kocherscheidt. This also means new opportunities for the EJOT Group thanks to the numerous products that already have great potential for the conversion of the economy from fossil combustion to climate-friendly technologies. These include, for example, electromobility, which offers starting points for screws and fasteners from the EJOT Group's product portfolio, both in battery technology and in the lightweight and mixed construction of car bodies as well as in charging stations for electricity. This also includes the insulation of buildings, fastening systems for solar systems, industrial lightweight construction and digital services. "We want to remain at the forefront of our industry to ensure our survival. We are working on many levers, products, organization, international positioning, climate and our EJOT spirit, which we want to make shine, especially in our anniversary year," says Christian Kocherscheidt.

EJOT, based in Bad Berleburg, is a medium-sized group of companies from the metalworking industry and European market leader in fastening technology. The internationally positioned company offers a wide range of innovative fasteners, in particular self-tapping screws for plastics and metals, technical formed parts made of plastic and metal as well as the complete range for fastening the outer shell of buildings. Customers come from the automotive and supplier industry, the telecommunications and consumer electronics sectors and the construction industry.
