Fraunhofer IKTS opens new site in Freiberg

Fraunhofer IKTS is stepping up its research into new battery concepts in Freiberg. One focus is on solid-state batteries, in which the liquid electrolyte is replaced by more environmentally friendly and reliable solid electrolytes based on polymers or ceramics. For the production of solid electrolyte cells and components, the researchers have a drying room with excellent quality at their disposal.

SaxBatt", one of the initial projects at the new site in Freiberg, was launched at the beginning of January and is being supported by the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism with ERDF funding of five million euros for investment and equipment.

In addition, Fraunhofer IKTS has already succeeded in acquiring more than seven million euros in project funding as part of the BMBF-funded competence clusters "greenBatt", "ProZell", "AQuaA" and "InZePro". Six researchers are currently working at the new IKTS site. The number of employees is set to increase gradually over the next few months.
