The global water supply is under increasing pressure. Dwindling water supplies and the pollution of water bodies are not only an ecological challenge, but increasingly also an economic and security challenge - both in Germany and internationally. With its new position paper "Mission Water Security: Sovereignty and Resilience through a Sustainable Water Supply", the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft aims to show how water technologies and cross-sectoral system solutions can contribute to a secure, sustainable and economically viable water supply. It recommends
- the development of a "water roadmap" for Germany as a business location,
- securing and modernizing critical supply infrastructures,
- the promotion of closed cultivation systems and the recycling of valuable substances and nutrients from waste and process water,
- the digitalization of water management.
