Many people have problems with skin blemishes. Cold plasma can provide a remedy; it has an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect and is also skin-friendly at a temperature of 30 °C. This has been shown by studies conducted by the Chair of Applied Electrodynamics and Plasma Technology at Ruhr University Bochum. The research findings have been incorporated into a technology-based cosmetic product that can be used to treat skin blemishes and will be launched on the market in 2024.
The interdisciplinary research team was able to show that the interaction of ozone and UV radiation as well as nitric oxide formed in the plasma led to the inactivation of spores and also helped to close wounds. The body cells are not damaged as a result. Based on the positive results, the start-up Glim Skin, a technology-based cosmetic product to combat cosmetic skin problems, was founded in 2022. It uses the properties of cold plasma to specifically treat inflammatory skin irritations. Compared to previous skin cosmetic products, Glim Skin's plasma technology is also chemical-free and environmentally friendly.
